The Abdominal Therapy Collective, better known by its previous name - The Arvigo Techniques of Mayan Abdominal Therapy (ATMAT),  are non-invasive, external massage techniques which guide internal abdominal organs into their optimum position for improved health and well-being.

Introduction

Abdominal Therapy Collective (ATC) is a holistic approach to health care which includes massage, herbology, nutrition, yoni steams and spiritual healing. The therapy is anchored in the belief that most female troubles are caused by the wandering womb. Practitioners trained by ATC address position and health of the pelvic and abdominal organs. Dr. Arvigo’s work is best known for the correction of the prolapsed, fallen, or tilted uterus and for the prevention and treatment of benign prostate enlargement in men.

By applying anatomy, physiology, herbology and naprapathy (study of the ligaments, joints and muscles) with ancient Mayan healing techniques, practitioners of ATC are able to address common pelvic complaints. This is a gentle external hands-on technique that can reposition organs such as the uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes that may have shifted during a fall, car accident, or other trauma (physical or emotional), and as a result, are restricting the flow of blood, lymph, nerve and Chi, making conception more difficult.

Background

In the early 1970s, Rosita Arvigo moved from the US to Mexico as a conscientious objector of the Vietnam war. It was in a remote village of Guerrero, Mexico, where she had a life-changing experience that led her to study the power of medicinal plants. The village of Salitre was an eight hour walk to the nearest small town over rough mountain terrain and river crossings. Salitre had no doctor, no clinic - only their traditional healers to guard their health and well-being. One night Rosita was awaken by an elderly neighbor woman knocking at her door who demanded her to help her give birth to a neighbor’s baby. Rosita had never seen a baby being born and thought she would faint at the first sight of blood. The elderly woman, whose hands were deformed due to advanced arthritis, told Rosita that she would guide her on every step of the way and that if she did as instructed, everything would be fine. After a few hours of labor the baby was born with no complications. However, the mother wouldn’t stop bleeding and was getting weaker by the minute. Rosita was instructed by the old lady to go to the garden and collect 9 red roses. She was then instructed to boil the roses for a few minutes, wait until the liquid was cool and feed it to the mother. In less than an hour the bleeding started to slow down and within a couple of hours the bleeding had completely stopped. That dark night in the mountains of Guerrero changed Rosita’s life forever. At that moment she knew she had to learn how those red roses saved the life of that mother. After many years of study, she was to learn that roses contain astringents like tannic acid and gallo-tannic acid that when prepared strong enough and administered cool can staunch uterine bleeding.

Rosita went on to study and receive a doctorate in Naprapathy, and then did most of her training in healing arts from Don Elijio - a Mayan healer believed to be the last of the great shamans trained in the ancient knowledge, and with the famous herbal-midwife Miss Hortence Robinson. Decades later, her work and that of her international students has helped thousands of people achieve their health and fertility goals.

Rosita founded the Abdominal Therapy Collective, a group of practitioners and teachers from many nations who are spreading these healing modalities across the globe. It is important to know that Rosita Arvigo is only affiliated with the Abdominal Therapy Collective, LLC. and with no other organization that is carrying her name.

Studies about Arvigo Mayan massage

A study published in 2013 where the response from 221 women diagnosed with primary and secondary dysmenorrhea who had received abdominal treatment by a certified ATC practitioner was analyzed. The study concluded by saying that:

Abdominal therapy may be profoundly effective in alleviating menstrual pain. Oral analgesics, such acetaminophen and NSAIDs, are widely used for managing pain. However, frequent dosing is required, the failure rate is high, and drug interactions or other adverse effects may occur. The availability of abdominal massage, convenience of self-care, and return to exploring one’s self make this therapy attractive, especially since it is shown to be as efficacious, if not more, as other options

Another study that aimed to investigate the effect of Maya massage on relieving uterine prolapse was published in 2015 by the Egyptian Journal of Health Care. The intervention study included 30 women who were suffering from uterine prolapse. These women were trained on how to do self-massage utilizing the Maya technique and asked to do it weekly. At the end of 3 months the researchers met individually with all the participants to assess the effect of Maya massage on relieving uterine prolapse. The study concluded that:

Mayan massage significantly relieves uterine prolapse manifestation after intervention by eight and twelve weeks. In the light of the finding of the present study, the following are recommended: Mayan massage as complementary alternative therapy considered as one of most effective therapeutic options for relieving uterine prolapse manifestations.

Conclusion

With a heavy emphasis in anatomy, physiology, and naprapathy, Maya abdominal therapy is a blend of massage, herbology, nutrition, yoni steams and spiritual healing. This gentle hands-on technique is used primarily to reposition organs such as the uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes that may have shifted during a physical or emotional trauma and that might be restricting the flow of blood, lymph, and/or Chi. Dr. Rosita Arvigo believes that “a woman’s pelvis is the center of her Universe. Through her pelvis flow currents of energy that sustain the physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing of a woman.”. If this flow is disrupted, issues will arise – including infertility.
